3D seismic at Kecskemét

On July 24, we had the opportunity to visit a MOL Plc. 3D seismic project near Kecskemét, Hungary.

Our trip started in Budapest where we were picked up by one of the workers of the company and traveled together to Kecskemét. When we arrived at the basis near the town, first we had a short introduction section with the team members. Then we took part in a security course before our real field trip started. First, we went to the operator's car to see how field groups are oriented from one point. Then we could hold the geophones in our hands to have a closer look. Later we could see live, how they are set in the field. Then came the best part of our day: we went to the vibro machines and even had the opportunity to get in them while working. An important role in the work in the field plays geodesy. The places of geophones and vibro machines are mostly determined by GPS machines. The accuracy of this system is about 5cm after basic correction. The team also used the latest technology of positioning, the so-called ’ZUPP’ machine. After the fieldwork, we went to the office again. There we could take a look, how preprocessing works. It was a really useful day for all of us.
