Visiting hydrocarbon exploration drilling rid in Barcs
03.28.2014
In favor of Magyar Horizont Ltd., our student chapter visited a hydrocarbon exploration drilling rig of the company at Barcs, near the Croatian border.
We were lucky because the field of the drilling was shown by the senior engineer who informed us of untold useful information. Started with a safety briefing right after we arrived, then we could see the base of drilling, where the choke is located. The drill stems just have been put together on the rotary table, after a week-long stand-by status, thanks to this we could be a witness to the assembly process, a variety of tools, and the driller’s cabin. Then we saw the mud tanks, the agitators, the mud pump, and the centrifuge. We visited the place where they kept the mud-treating agent. They adumbrated into the work of mud chemists and opened the door to see the mud pattern, and the cuttings under a microscope. The parameters of the current drilling were on view in the supervisor’s office. We could look into the project summary papers such as seismic profiles are used for research, logistics guides, and Gantt diagrams describing the processes as well. Finally, we visited the company producing well, which was located only a few hundred meters from the drilling site, and there we looked at the final yield of the progress.
