Visiting the Satellite Geodetic Observatory in Penc
04.24.2014
On April 24, 2014, our members had the opportunity to visit the Satellite Geodetic Observatory of the Institute of Geodesy, Cartography and Remote Sensing (FÖMI) in Penc, near Vác.
After a kind welcome, we could hear a short presentation about the history and the current operation of the Institute. Then the method of satellite radar interferometry was introduced to us. To get us closer to the technique, we could hear interesting case studies and even got printed material about the topic. After the presentations, we visited an exhibition of the equipment used by the Institute in the past. At the end of our trip, we could see all the equipment still used in the territory of the observatory, for example, two persistent scatters or a lightning detector.
