Call for Field Camp Application

The Eötvös Student Chapter in SEG will organize its 4th International Field Camp between October 17 and 24, 2022, for which all interested students are welcome to apply. The primary location of the field camp will be in Mályi and its surroundings, where interesting geological and environmental problems will be solved using near-surface geophysical methods. Geophysics and geology students and others interested in geophysics are welcomed.

During the field camp, students will carry out various geophysical measurements in teams under the supervision of lecturers and Ph.D. students from the Department of Geophysics and Space Science of Eötvös Loránd University and professionals from Geomega Ltd. Among other things, participants will learn about the geoelectric and seismic methods, and will also have the opportunity to carry out aquatic geoelectric, aquatic seismic, and water radar measurements, as well as silt sampling.

The two main goals of the field camp are to investigate the siltation of Lake Mályi with aquatic geophysical methods, which process is already threatening the ecosystem of the lake, and to specify the location of active faults in the Bükk Foreland Volcanic Area. More information on the tasks can be found under the link.

The field camp is a great opportunity to gain first-hand field experience by solving interesting geological problems, to learn and collect experience in geophysical measurements, processing, and evaluation of the data.

In addition to field measurements, we are also preparing with educational and cultural programs in Budapest. At the end of the field camp, we will hold an online data processing workshop in early November, to refine and evaluate the preprocessed field data.
